Virtual 5K

Feeling a little cooped up? Not feeling that motivated to work out? Want to contribute to a good cause

that could really use your help it at this time? Feeling a lack of competition? Want to get your kids outside for a little exercise? Missing your school sports? Feeling a little bored? Put on the COVID 15?

Come Join us for East Haddam’s First Virtual 5K to benefit the East Haddam Food Bank.

What is a virtual 5K you ask?

It is a race where you map out the route, then you run that route with your GPS device/app, and submit your time.

What do you need to do to participate?

  1. You will need to sign up with East Haddam Parks and Rec at www.easthaddamrec.com and pay the $10 entrance fee by April 12th
  2. You will complete your run sometime between April 13th and April 19th
  3. Submit your times from your GPS device/app to email? on or before April 19th.

Additional details…

  • All money raised will be donated to the East Haddam food bank.  In addition, Wendi MacNeil will match up to $250 of the money raised to add to the donation.
  • Interested in donating, but not in running? Simply sign up and pay the $10 entry fee and check the box saying it is a donation so we know you will not be submitting race results.
  • You are also welcome to get out and walk the 5K. You can submit your walking times, as well, if you want a little more incentive to get outside and be a little more active.
  • Have members of your family sign up (near and far) and compete against each other for family bragging rights.
  • When you register, pleasel sign up for the applicable age group and gender.

Recognition/Prizes.

At some point within a week after the race we will post the results from the race on the East Haddam Parks and Rec Site.  The intent is to recognize the first-place finishers in each age group Male/Female with some sort of prize as well.  Current thought is with gift cards to local businesses (and yes, I will consider what is local for the winner!)

Questions:

If you have any questions, please direct them to Wendi MacNeil at email? .  I will try to get back to you as soon as I can but be a little patient as I do have a day job as well.
Let’s enjoy the outdoors, get some exercise, and help our neighbors in need!!

Guitar Lessons

Group Guitar Lessons

Group lessons are one of the best ways to get started learning music! This course is specifically designed for the beginning guitar player. Students will learn how to read music, play scales, use a pick, position both left and right hands, play songs, read chord charts, strumming and more. Charles, the owner of Charles’ Music Center of Old Lyme and resident of Moodus, has been playing guitar for 31 years and teaching for more than 18 years. He is a fun, energetic teacher who believes that learning music should be fun. Students must bring a guitar (acoustic or electric guitars are acceptable) and a guitar pick. If you don’t have a guitar, you may purchase one as part of the registration package. Please see below.  A music book will be provided.

My Personal Football Coach Online App

Hello East Haddam Youth Soccer players!

My Personal Football (Soccer ) Coach Online App

Whether you play Rec, Travel, Middle School, High School, or beyond, the soccer culture of our great town will endure! During this trying time of isolation, the thought of being able to not only train your soccer skills but VASTLY IMPROVE may seem impossible. This is simply not true. Technical (or individual) skills are what set players up for lifelong success and enjoyment in soccer. The
ability to do all the "tricks" and high-level moves you see by Ronaldo, Messi, Firmino, Pulisic, etc? They come from training with a ball on their own when not at team sessions. We have worked a deal with former Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur youth academy director, Saul Isakson Hurst to subscribe to his interactive, online training platform, My Personal Football Coach. On the platform you will be able to access hundreds of drills, sessions, videos, and even his exclusive Dynamic Ball Mastery Program. Additionally, you can interact with myself or other coaches from East Haddam who can upload videos, answer questions, and even review your uploaded videos. There is even the ability to ask questions of Coach Saul himself. The cost of this program is $5.25/player per month and you can cancel whenever you want. However, refunds will not be issued if you've started a new month.

Pickleball

Pickleball has arrived in East Haddam! You may ask, what in the world is pickleball? It is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. It combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It can be played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. It is played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes that looks similar to a wiffleball. Come check it out and play in our gym on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30am-11:30am. Thursday evenings 6:30-6:30pm and Sundays 4-6pm. We provide all equipment. Ages 18 and older. Drop in fee is $5/day. Or you can purchase a Pickleball Club Card - 10 games for $40.
